The advantages of Stump Grinding.
This old Cherry stump was the best part of one and a half feet deep but that’s not a problem for Stump and Grind. Once we’re finished we put the mulch back in the hole to fill it for you. In a few months the mulch will have rotted down and the ground is then ready for a little top soil, followed by seed or turf to return your lawn to its former state.
When tr
ees fall or are felled, their stumps should be removed to prevent suckering (new growth) or fungal root rots such as honey fungus. Although small trees may be dug out by hand or the use of a mini excavator, the use of a stump grinder means the main root plate can be thoroughly ground out, leaving fine sawdust. Although a few roots will inevitably be left in the ground, the majority will rot down.
If you’re building a driveway or conservatory and need some trees removed, the use of a JCB type digger to rip the stumps out will certainly destroy other roots and plants that you wanted to preserve. Some of the country’s major building contractors now understand that clearing the site with bulldozers often affects the trees they wish to retain, either by root damage or disease.
Similarly we are also often called in by conservation groups to target an old diseased stumps in order to stop the spread of the disease to other nearby trees. If a stump in your garden is diseased, grinding the stump away will help to control or eradicate honey fungus etc. from your garden.
We start by getting the right machine into position. Our Bandit 2100 is thin enough to get through most garden gates. Then the grinding begins and you’ll be amazed at the speed and accuracy of both our machines and our operators.
In most cases, once we have finished the grinding we will use the mulch to backfill the hole where the stump used to be but for a nominal charge we will take away the mulch and fill the hole with
top soil, making good with turf if required. This is usually only requested when stumps are removed from a lawned area.
